Maverick Skateparks: Anti-social Behaviour Down Thanks To Dorchester Skatepark

maverickskate:

Dorchester’s skatepark is contributing to a drop in anti-social behaviour according to Dorset Police.

Yesterday we told you Dorset Police still face challenges with almost 48,000 incidents of anti-social behaviour reported last year – in Dorchester the there’s been a drop in 19% since the skate…

Just found this on the Maverick blog – it would seem that the argument that skaters are all anti-social and purely skate to cause havoc is completely false, if this article from a local Dorchester news source is to be believed. The new skatepark in Dorchester has lead to a 19% drop in crime, and a 33% drop in crime in the area where the skatepark is situated. That’s 1 third less crime in that area, all because of a skatepark!! I’ve heard recently from police officers that Cheylesmore, Stivichale, Finham and Earlsdon have popped up on West Midlands Police’s radar as “high crime areas” – all areas that are next to the Memorial Park. With the idea of a possible extension of Covpark being banded around, this kind of article is exactly the kind of thing that reinforces a need for a modern, purpose built skatepark with a layout that will keep skaters, BMXers and inliners coming back for years to come!
