I’ve been known to take forever to say something that should only take 2 seconds. So I’ll try and keep this short and easy to read.
I have no idea if anyone has heard this already, or whether it’s still fairly unknown – 2013, despite being Terribleco’s tenth year anniversary, is also it’s final year of operation. That’s right, we’re shutting it all down. Concrete Jungle (which is almost done), will be our last video.
It’s hard to explain – Lucas Healey, Stan Byrne and Connor Lomas knew this was coming, as I had to explain to them how it affected Concrete Jungle. Some people might predict this is me “growing up and quitting skateboarding” – that’s not it. I still enjoy skateboarding a lot and I’ll still be out every weekend doing sweepers and no comply’s all over the place. I love the act of skateboarding too much to just quit.
Basically, I just don’t enjoy anything to do with Terribleco anymore; editing footage, organising comps, the constant meetings about skateparks. By getting drawn into all of that, skateboarding was no longer fun. With such limited time on my hands, sometimes it’s nice to actually just go and skate, and not worry about anything else related to skateboarding. I’m not around to see the sick tricks that everyone throws down, so there’s no possible way for me to keep up with where the scene is at.
I also feel like Terribleco is no longer relevant. In an age where everyone has Instagram, Facebook Groups, Youtube – there’s no room for low-level, low-budget scene websites. You’re either holding it down on a huge scale like our mates at Get Lesta, or you’re having a laugh making vids with your mates, for your mates. There’s no inbetween – and that’s sadly where Terribleco lies.
I have once again took forever to make a simple point. But after 10 years, there’s no simple way to end Terribleco. I feel like it’s time for someone else to step in, and to see what else Coventry can serve up to replace Terribleco – after all, this is how Terribleco was born (thank Mark Hewitt and his old Cov Scene blog for that). I’ll be getting Concrete Jungle online when it’s done – we’re going out with a bang.
To everyone who has contributed to Coventry Skateboarding, no matter if you were related to Terribleco or not, thank you for making Terribleco what is was.
– Ade
