The guys at Pioneer skatepark in St Albans need your help. As one of the UK’s premier indoor skateparks, it would appear that Hertfordshire County Council, in a misguided and frankly ignorant act of judgement, are kicking out the guys who run the Pioneer charity (which keeps the skatepark open). In their place, non-skaters and people with no real passion or interest in skateboarding from Youth Connexion are taking over the skatepark, and banning all skaters under the age of 13 and over the age of 19. Obviously, this is a ridiculous stance for an indoor skatepark to have, as it effectively cuts out two thirds of their business. As stated already, it’s a misguided move by people who know nothing about skateboarding.
Herts County Council have been contacted by locals of the park already, but their voices aren’t enough. The council have set forward the seemingly impossible target of a 10,000 name petition; without that they aren’t willing to change their plans or their attitude towards the park’s age limit. For the love of skateboarding in the UK, I’m expecting you all to take a minute of your time to fill in their petition and help educate Herts County Council on the kind of people who are really using the Pioneer skatepark.
