The Government (specifically the Department of Education) are scrapping a funding scheme called “The Playbuilder Project”. Doesn’t sound familiar? Well, it should. It’s a funding gateway for councils to gain access to cash to create playgrounds, youth areas and areas for young people to be active. If you haven’t put 2 and 2 together already, skateparks are heavily included in the Playbuilder project, with Maverick Industries taking advantage of the funding scheme on several occasions (The new Midsomer Norton park, considered the best in the UK, was built through Playbuilders funding).
Therefore, if you love skateboarding and want to see more amazing parks appearing in this country, you have to join the Facebook group I’ve linked above, no excuses. Without Playbuilder funding, the amount of amazing landmark skateparks that will appear in this country in the coming years will decrease rapidly – and this may very well affect any skatepark project that is going forward here in Coventry.
