As you may well know, our mates over in the Leicestershire village of Countesthorpe (home of Josh Walters – who can next be seen in Terribleco’s upcoming video Cthulhu, as well as the upcoming Get Lesta vid), have been campaigning for a modern, top quality skatepark for the past year or so. The project has gathered major support from all over the country, with a facebook group boasting more than 750 people, and a 500 name petition. This has prompted the parish council to install a temporary mini ramp as a trial for the popularity of a proper skatepark. To celebrate the official opening of the ramp, and to gain more support for the building of a bigger, permanent, concrete facility, there’s a jam/comp going on next saturday (7th of August). They’ve got pro skaters and pro BMXers confirmed for the day, and with any luck it’s going to be a killer example of how badly the midlands needs better skateparks.
At the minute, as most of you will know, we’re trying to convince Coventry City Council to move ahead with a new skatepark project, to try and build a skatepark that matches up to 21st century standards. Now the dark days of parks being built by inferior park designers like Bendcrete, GBH and Rhino Ramps are finally over, we can move away from park designs that are uninteresting and begin to get parks that match up to what everyone else in America and Europe are skating. Countesthorpe’s park project is just another step in the right direction. The jam will be taking place at Leysland High School, Winchester Road, Countesthorpe.
